Canary deployments reduce blast radius - but without automated decision gates, someone still has to watch dashboards and make the call. That's slow, stressful, and doesn't scale.
In this talk, we build a metric-driven canary rollout pipeline on Kubernetes using Argo Rollouts and a queryable observability platform.
We cover incremental traffic shifting, automatic SLI collection, and fully automated promotion or rollback. Concepts apply regardless of your observability stack. You'll leave with a practical blueprint and a realistic picture of what it takes to trust automation with production promotion decisions.
- Basic Kubernetes knowledge (Deployments, Services).
- Familiarity with canary or blue/green deployment concepts is helpful but not required.
- Some exposure to an observability platform (metrics, dashboards) will help follow the examples.
- No prior Argo Rollouts experience needed.
- Benefits of Canary Rollouts compared to traditional rolling releases
- Configure metric-driven canary rollouts with Argo Rollouts
- Define SLIs and translate them into automated promotion and rollback conditions
